The Government has legislated to curb the growth of spam within New Zealand. Legislation is seen internationally as an important element in addressing the problem of spam along with industry self-regulation, technical measures, and consumer and business education.
As an email service provider, Image Centre advises all clients to obtain express consent from their customers, and to record this consent in their database, before email marketing to them. Otherwise clients risk
- a $500,000 penalty
- Gaining an unwanted reputation as a spammer
- Being blacklisted
- Damaging brand integrity
- Having messages not received by target markets, and thus potential loss of revenue
Are you spamming? The Spam Checklist
1) Is your message electronic?
2) Is your message commercial?
3) Is your message unsolicited?
The message is spam if it fits all three of these criteria.
